There can only be one and from 2023, Chris Norton grabbed the TOP SPOT in the 2023 Championship Game
We caught up with Chris to get him to share his journey in racing as well as within StableDuel. Like many other players, just a racing fan who enjoys the comradery of the games as well as the tough competition, Chris happily moved his stable, mosquitoslayer13, into the top spot of the big game winning $3K in game credits.
My name is Chris Norton, I’m 56 years old and reside in Red Bank, NJ. My grandfather took me to the racetrack for the first time in the summer of 1978. We spent the day at Monmouth Park and I had such a great day that I wad hooked on the horses from that moment on.
My favorite racetrack is Saratoga but Monmouth Park will always hold a special place in my heart since it’s my home track. It’s impossible for me to just name one horse as my favorite so I will list a few…Holy Bull, Skip Away, Invasor, Wise Dan and Enable.
This is my 4th year competing in StableDuel and this was my first time playing in the Leaderboard championship. I enjoy trying to put the best possible stable together to compete against the other tremendous players on the StableDuel app. When I first starting playing StableDuel I struggled with putting together successful entries so I reached out to other players to ask for advice. Immediately players responded with suggestions and I really appreciate that people that you’re competing against were so willing to help a fellow player. There really are some incredible people on the StableDuel app!
My favorite wagers when I’m at the track are win, pk-4s, pk-5s bets. Most memorable day at the racetrack would be Breeders Cup Saturday 2015 at Keeneland. My friend Doug and I drove out to Keeneland from NJ. What an incredible day of racing, winners included Nyquist, Songbird, Runhappy and American Pharaoh.
I followed the Leaderboard contest closely from the beginning to the end. The first 3 horses I selected for my stable won so I felt I could really compete for a top 20 in the money finish. I moved into first place after the 2nd to last race on the Keeneland card and the next 20-25 minutes were nerve wracking. This was the first time that day that I really felt I could finish 1st overall. I had the #12 horse in the last race and when the #12 crossed the wire first I was fairly sure that I would finish first overall but it really didn’t register until the final standings were posted.
My stable strategy was to find 5 horses that I really liked and then filled in around those 5 to complete my entry. Favorite thing about StableDuel is you can select a game that is in your budget or comfort level and be involved with an entire track card for 3-5 hours. My only suggested change to StableDuel that I have would be to have more games involving the smaller tracks (Penn National, CharlesTown and Mahoning Valley to name a few).
