Delaware Park has just kicked off for its exciting (and beautiful) summer meet. This small boutique track is located in Stanton, Delaware just 30 miles from Philadelphia.
Opened in 1937, the track offers both dirt and turf racing, and is the only mid-atlantic track to also showcase Arabian races.
(Feature Photo from @ThomasE_Kearney)
Racing stars have started their careers at this track including the Triple Crown winner Afleet Alex and Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro. Eight Belles also won her first race at Delaware Park. Their feature races have attracted the popular stars both horses and riders including Songbird and Mike Smith.
Many fans say that this track has THE most picturesque paddock of any racetrack in the United States (yes even Saratoga and Keeneland). Hard to even appreciate from photos but we will try to share. Imagine huge hundred year old trees with just one antique gazebo centered to the horses as the prepare to be saddled and mounted ahead of their contest. You may just have to take a trip and visit to see it yourself…

Headlining races are the Delaware Oaks (G3) which comes up quick on Saturday July 2nd followed by the Delaware Handicap (G2) on July 9th.

We didn’t have any photos ourselves so we asked StableDuel players to send in photos they’ve taken while at the beautiful track. Thanks to all that shared!
