It was a huge weekend at StableDuel and in racing. So many big races, so many big performances…almost too many! We don’t even know where to start in recapping a massive weekend. For us, it was really just the start of what we expect to be a great next few weeks – I mean, Keeneland opens on Friday! We have the Santa Anita Derby and Blue Grass Stakes on Saturday! But, ok, we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
First, in the grade 1 Florida Derby, White Abarrio (by Race Day out of Catching Diamonds) overcame an eventful week in which he spiked a temperature and missed a workout to win Florida’s premier prep race for the Kentucky Derby. Ridden by Florida native Tyler Gaffalione and trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr., White Abbario earned 61.25 points for his backers who had him in their stables in the StableDuel Florida Derby Jackpot. Second was Charge It (by Tapit and out of I’ll Take Charge), a very lightly raced colt trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Luis Saez , who put 38.75 points on the board for those intrepid enough to use $7,500 (based on his 7-2 morning line odds) of their $50,000 StableDuel bankroll on a maiden winner in a grade 1 race. Show money (the third place finisher) went to Simplification (by Not This Time out of Simply Confection), who yielded 27.75 points, against his 5-2 Morning Line odds ($8,500).
